In “The River – Odyssey of Life”, we explore the rivers of Korea to learn about the creatures that reside there, and to ponder the cycle of life and death which occurs in perfect synchronization with the changing of the seasons.

Summary

Mr Engel, aged 85, (Max Von Sydow) returns to Amsterdam where he was born. He had to flee during the Nazi occupation and the atrocious Anti-Semitic laws.
Mr Engel spends the night on the Reguliersbreestraat, one of the busiest streets in Holland’s “Queen’s City”. Mr Engel rediscovers the movie theatre of his childhood, the Tuschinski. And he starts dreaming…
He dreams that he enters the building. Nothing has changed since he was a child. The doorman in his showy uniform, the usherette in scarlet and gold, the little bellboy, dressed in a pre-war outfit… He dreams that he sits in Box 12, exactly where he used to sneak in and hide, 75 years ago, to see the films.
He dreams that the spirit of theatre’s founder, Abraham Icek Tuschinski, comes back in his theater…
He dreams of the conversation he has with the spirit of Tuschinski, narrating Abraham’s fabulous and tragic story in two voices.
This conversation, rising from deeply rooted memories too fast forgotten, ends when the magnificent dreamer of cinematographic dreams, Abraham Icek Tuschinski, is murdered in Auschwitz.

Summary

A local inner city community center is the home of a group of under privileged youngsters ranging from the ages of 6-13, as they run around creating havoc for their current martial arts teacher. As the martial arts instructor has had enough he quits, leaving the children without a teacher.
Enter JIMMY LEE a former MMA World Champion who grew up in the community center run by his foster father CHARLIE (60’s) who asks Jimmy to be the children’s new teacher.
The children that make-up what’s left of the community center include Wyatt Jones (13) the ‘whiner’ and sort of the leader of the group, lost his military father while he was serving the country and his mom is struggling to hold a job while Wyatt faces his own struggles of growing up having lost a father at a young age.
Alex Michaels is 10 years old-going on 30, an intellectual type, and his little brother Sean is the youngest of the group who is scared of everything and carries a big pillow. Sean and Alex lost their parents in an accident and their aunt (VALERIE) a beautiful ballerina has taken them in to raise the children as her own.
Raymond Butz (11), is a sweet kid who gets bullied constantly at school, is overweight, and lives with a stern father who constantly hammers him about his weight and Leticia Hernandez is the only girl in the group, who has never owned anything that was new and is constantly insecure.
As we follow the lives of these children, we begin to see that their tough exterior is really a reflection of their inner struggles.
Jimmy reluctantly begins to train these kids and the team goes up against the undefeated Beverly Hills Junior National team led by Ted Barret, the leader of The Beverly Hills Scorpions and a longtime rival of Jimmy Lee.
But due to budget cuts and economy in recession, Jimmy and Charlie cannot properly support their team so Jimmy goes out looking for sponsors. Unfortunately no one cares for these kids from the poor neighborhood and everyone turns him down… except one person, known as BIG MAMA who owns the Big Mama’s Hot Dogs stand.
Thus the team becomes Big Mama’s Underdogs, which kids hates because they don’t want to be called as “Winnies” however, the group begins to accept their name as ‘The Underdogs,’ and they begin to slowly transform into a formidable team.
Through trials, tribulations and learning how to turn everything negative in their lives to something positive the team begins to show maturity as they continue to take on their greatest rivals and learns to be not only champions in competition but champions in life.
