Summary

Mr Engel, aged 85, (Max Von Sydow) returns to Amsterdam where he was born. He had to flee during the Nazi occupation and the atrocious Anti-Semitic laws.
Mr Engel spends the night on the Reguliersbreestraat, one of the busiest streets in Holland’s “Queen’s City”. Mr Engel rediscovers the movie theatre of his childhood, the Tuschinski. And he starts dreaming…
He dreams that he enters the building. Nothing has changed since he was a child. The doorman in his showy uniform, the usherette in scarlet and gold, the little bellboy, dressed in a pre-war outfit… He dreams that he sits in Box 12, exactly where he used to sneak in and hide, 75 years ago, to see the films.
He dreams that the spirit of theatre’s founder, Abraham Icek Tuschinski, comes back in his theater…
He dreams of the conversation he has with the spirit of Tuschinski, narrating Abraham’s fabulous and tragic story in two voices.
This conversation, rising from deeply rooted memories too fast forgotten, ends when the magnificent dreamer of cinematographic dreams, Abraham Icek Tuschinski, is murdered in Auschwitz.

Summary

In an ash desert, two faceless beings, ‘Arm’ and ‘Leg’, start recognizing each other by trespassing body borders.
They reveal their petrified faces and move to an upright postition by supporting their incomplete bodies.
As they get closer, a hyper civilized mercenary gets triggered, seeking for them in various dimensions.
When he finally enters the ash desert, after stripping himself from technological support, Arm, Leg and the Mercenary are forced to face themselves and their relation to each other.
Being close to each other carries vulnerability – which form of intimacy truly fits love and mutuality?
How do things get blurry, when you are too close to them?

‘Limb’ deals with the images people impose to each others, treats intimacy and vulnerability as aspects of relationship in an abstract and surreal manner.
This silent short film creates an independent aesthetic by applying antique and modern film techniques, such as rear projection and digital stereoscopy.
